Boston Baked Beans

  • 1.5 lbs dry navy beans
  • water
  • 1 large onions, chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 15 oz can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 tbsp dry mustard
  • 2/3 cup blackstrap molasses
  • 1/4 cup dark amber agave nectar (or 1/3 cup brown sugar)
  1. Rinse and dry beans
  2. Soak in enough water to cover by a couple of inches for 8 hours
  3. Rinse the beans and place in a large pot and cover with 4 inches of water
  4. Bring to a boil
  5. Continue boiling for about 45 minutes until the beans are tender
  6. Drain the beans and place in a crock pot with the remaining ingredients
  7. Simmer on low for 2 to 4 hours
  8. Serve the Boston baked beans hot or at room temperature
